Audiovisual Systems Integration

St Joseph Roman Catholic Church – Trinidad

St Joseph RC Church

Cor. King & Abercromby Street, St. Joseph, Trinidad, West Indies

Nestled in the historic town of St. Joseph, the centuries-old RC Church underwent a major restoration in 2025. In 2024, CET was awarded the contract to upgrade its audio, video, and lighting systems. Working alongside architects, CET delivered a discreet yet high-performance solution, preserving the church’s beauty while ensuring exceptional sound clarity and functionality

Given the highly reverberant nature of the space—long known for its acoustic challenges—the proposed solution required careful collaboration between CET, the acoustic consultant, and the architect. The goal was to ensure that speech from the altar remained clear and pristine throughout all seating areas. Additionally, in line with a mandate from the Archbishop, the system was designed to support live streaming, allowing services to reach the wider community while maintaining the reverence and integrity of the worship experience.

Designed with simplicity in mind, the system puts control directly in the hands of the priest. A single touch on a 22″ touchscreen activates the full Mass setting, including livestreaming—ensuring a seamless start to services while maintaining focus on the liturgy, not the technology.

Key Special Points:

  • High Speech Intelligibility & Consistent Coverage: Ensures clear audio throughout the space with even sound distribution.
  • One-Touch Control: Deacon or Priest can easily control altar and choir microphones via a simple keypad.
  • Video & Lighting Integration: Lighting reinforcement was added to ensure optimal video capture of the altar area.
  • Seamless Aesthetic Integration: Installation prioritizes the preservation of the church’s visual integrity.
  • Smaart Tuning: Applied for precise audio calibration and optimal performance.
  • Reuse of Client Equipment: Existing client equipment that was deemed suitable for integration was successfully reused, contributing to the overall system efficiency.

Design Challenges:

  • Reverberant Space: Overcame acoustic challenges to ensure clear speech intelligibility in a highly reflective environment.

The parishioners expressed that this is the best the space has ever sounded in their lifetime.
